The GIST: Since we’re once again living in the Trubisky-experience, let’s talk college. Notre Dame football secured their spot in the ACC Championship, and the No. 5 U of I men’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to the No. 2 Baylor Bears last night.

The GIST: Although the Washington Football Team’s game against the Steelers was postponed from Sunday to Monday — with trades for the Wizards and the Spirit and a much-deserved accolade for a Mystics athlete — the District’s still popping.

The GIST: The Patriots are heading off to warmer climates, while the Celtics and Red Sox hope that minor setbacks lead to major comebacks.

The GIST: The Eagles take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and Villanova basketball has kicked off what looks to be an exciting new season.

The GIST: The Giants are hoping to survive without quarterback (QB) Daniel Jones this week as they take on the Seattle Seahawks. On the court, the Nets gear up to start the season with lots of new faces while the WNBA's Liberty hope to add even more young talent.

The GIST: Some LA athletes (see: LeBron, Chiney) are being rewarded and honored for their accomplishments. Meanwhile, some teams are rebounding from tragic losses (see: Rams, Chargers).

The GIST: While the Jets are still winless, the Giants are miraculously sitting in first place in the NFC East after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday. Stranger things.

The GIST: Apart from Sarah Fuller making herstory, college football gave us a status quo weekend, as the top eight teams remained unchanged for a fourth straight week. But college hoops did not disappoint, with upsets and huge blowouts in the first week of play. Now that’s what we’ve been looking for.

The GIST: The Bears extended their losing streak to five straight games after falling 41–25 against their arch rival, the Green Bay Packers, last night.

The GIST: The Hub’s football and fútbol teams are helping us kick off Monday on a high note. The Patriots escaped with a close win over the Arizona Cardinals and the Revolution marched onward in the MLS playoffs.
