The GIST: The Giants play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Mets are making offseason moves, and Sky Blue FC is taking a risk. Let’s get you up to speed in less than a New York minute!

🏈One more shot: The Giants earned a much-needed win against the Washington Football Team (WFT) last week, but they need to do it again against the Eagles if they want to hold on to a chance of extending their season. While the Giants are only one win behind the Eagles in the NFC East, they have fewer divisional games remaining and tougher opponents ahead. It’s now or never.

  • The Eagles have had a rollercoaster of a season, including losing to the WFT in Week 1. If the Giants’ defense can step up and make the Eagles’ offense break down, there could be hope for the G-men after all.

⚾️LGM: Marcus Stroman, one of the top pitchers in MLB free agency this offseason, accepted the Mets’ offer to return on a one-year deal. Fans didn’t see Stroman on the mound in 2020 as he opted out of the season, but he’s been a consistently good pitcher since he debuted in 2014.

  • Stroman’s signing shows that new owner Steve Cohen is making the right moves: the Stro Show will provide reliability and depth to the pitching roster, something the Mets desperately need.

⚽️On the pitch: A number of Sky Blue FC players, including midfielder Carli Lloyd, are up for grabs tonight in the NWSL expansion draft. Because she’s, you know, Carli Lloyd, her 15+ years of professional soccer experience would make a major and immediate impact for the new team in Louisville.

  • Even though Lloyd is a stud, she is an older player, which can sometimes turn off expansion teams who are looking to develop over multiple years. Here’s hoping Sky Blue hedged their bets correctly.
