Three of the biggest moves from the MLB Trade Deadline

The GIST: Forget runnin’ out of time, yesterday’s 6 p.m. ET MLB trade deadline has come and gone — and moves were made in spades. Here are the three trades that could have major postseason implications come October.
🩵 American League-best Toronto Blue Jays add former Cy Young winner: The Blue Birds are all in on October after standing on business to acquire pitcher Shane Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians yesterday.
- This is a big deal for the Jays if it’s a vintage Bieber who takes the mound: The right-hander hasn’t pitched since April 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery and is expected to make his return in mid-August.
🚀 Shortstop Carlos Correa returns to the Houston Astros: Speaking of October, the perennial powerhouse is bolstering its infield, bringing back Correa four years after the three-time All-Star left for the Minnesota Twins in free agency. Historically, Correa has shined under the postseason lights, but there’s work to be done: His bat’s been awfully quiet this season.
🤎 The San Diego Padres secure defensive and offensive weapons: As is tradition, the Dads are once again leaning on quantity at the deadline. And while the annual flurry of moves hasn’t won them a World Series yet, they did add some serious quality yesterday: the reigning velocity king, pitcher Mason Miller, and an All-Star slugger in Ryan O’Hearn. Talk about covering all their bases.
