LA: Sister, sister

March 4, 2021
The GIST: With Clipper Kawhi Leonard missing Tuesday’s game due to back spasms and Laker LeBron James sitting out yesterday, our NBA teams really need some R&R. Good thing the Sparks and our college hoopers are here to pick up the slack.

🏀Sparks: While we’re absolutely not over Candace Parker leaving the Sparks, there is some good in the world: the Ogwumike (pronounced OH-GWOO-MIH-KAY) sisters are officially back! Little sis Chiney broke her own re-signing news last week, and big sis Nneka followed that up by re-signing on Tuesday.

  • Chiney opted out of last season for medical reasons, so it’s been a minute since we’ve watched the sisters play together. May’s scheduled WNBA season start can’t come soon enough.

College women’s basketball: But as much as we love the Ogwumikes, there’s zero chance you’ll catch us rooting for their alma mater Stanford. Today at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT in the Pac-12 Tournament quarter-finals, the Stanford Cardinal are up against the USC Trojans, who dispatched Arizona State in the first round yesterday. Can the “Women of Troy” pull off the upset?

  • As for UCLA, they had a first-round bye and will face UW tonight at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT. There’s nothing like postseason basketball.
