June 8, 2021
The GIST: The Mavs were eliminated by the LA Clippers in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Yes, Olivia, we do have déjà vu.

🏀Mavericks: Despite Luka Doncic pouring in 46 points in his seventh playoff double-double and everybody’s favorite NBA player Boban Marjanović notching a double-double of his own, the Mavs still came up short in yesterday’s 126–111 Game 7 loss to the Clips. Left it all on the floor.

  • But don’t fret, the future’s still looking bright. With his eye-popping numbers, it’s easy to forget this was just Doncic’s third season in the league. If the Mavs can build around him this offseason, maybe the fourth time will be the charm.

🏀Wings: After a hard-fought 105–102 overtime loss to the Seattle Storm on Friday, the Wings pulled out some late game heroics of their own in yesterday’s 68–67 win over the Storm. Arike Ogunbowale (pronounced ah-REE-kay oh-goon-boh-WAH-lay) nailed the game-winning three-pointer with just seconds left. Can you say clutch?

  • The Wings will be back in action tomorrow at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT against the Phoenix Mercury, who they lost to in a heartbreaking, spicy battle last month. Let’s bring the heat and close another one out!
