No. 8 Stanford Cardinal: Pretty sure when Lizzie McGuire said, “This is what dreams are made of,” she meant this play. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the game tied 6–6, Stanford junior Drew Bowser had the hit of a lifetime, launching a pop fly so lofty that unseeded Texas’ outfielders lost it in the stadium lights.
- What should have been a simple catch suddenly became a walk-off RBI in a winner-take-all game, propelling the Cardinal to their third straight MCWS with the 7–6 win. Couldn’t have written it better.
Unseeded Tennessee Volunteers: The Vols were wildly hyped in the preseason, landing a No. 2 ranking thanks to their stacked bullpen. Their pitchers haven’t quite lived up to those expectations, but they certainly showed what they’re capable of Monday, silencing unseeded Southern Miss 5–0 on their own diamond.
