You don’t have to wait until this summer’s Paris Olympics to catch world-class gymnastics — the collegiate women’s season hits the mat this weekend.

On Friday, Red Rocks junior and two-time Team USA World Champion Kara Eaker, a member of Utah’s 2023 national third-place squad, announced her retirement from women’s gymnastics and her withdrawal from the university, citing abuse from an unnamed male coach.

The U.S. Classic —the most important qualifying meet ahead of the USA Gymnastics Championships later this month —begins today, but TBH, the real fun comes tomorrow, when the GOAT, Simone Biles, makes her highly-anticipated return to elite competition after a two-year absence.

Gymnastics is one of the few college sports where the gals are granted more of the spotlight — and that may be due to the achingly few NCAA men’s teams: There are just 15 NCAA men’s gymnastics teams (12 DI and three DIII) in existence today.
