👀 History has its eyes on tonight’s primetime men’s semi: One of our least favorite men competes in the first semi today at 3 p.m. ET. But we’ll be locked in tonight at 7 p.m. ET, when No. 9 Ben Shelton and No. 12 Frances Tiafoe meet for an All-American battle on Arthur Ashe. The winner will become the first Black man to compete in a US Open final since Arthur Ashe himself in 1974.

• Shelton and Tiafoe have met four times, with Shelton and his powerful serve holding a 3-1 all-time advantage. However, powered by his endless engine, Tiafoe emerged victorious in their most recent major meeting in the 2024 US Open Round of 32. So seated.

The GIST: The 20th edition of the Solheim Cup teed off early this morning from Bernardus Golf Club in the Netherlands. One of women’s golf’s most anticipated tourneys, the biennial event pits Team USA against Team Europe, with bragging rights — and the coveted crystal trophy — on the line.

⚙️ How it works: The Solheim Cup is a three-day match-play competition, where teams earn one point for a win and half a point for a tie. The first two days are foursome (alternate shot, using one shared ball between two teammates) and four-ball (aka best ball) matches. The final day is the spiciest, featuring one-on-one singles matches.

• Each team rosters 12 players, with team captains, Europe’s Anna Nordqvist and the US’s Angela Stanford, deciding the competition order. The team with the most points is named the winner, and if it ends in a tie, the reigning champ Americans will retain the cup.

⭐ The superstars: World No. 1 Nelly Korda headlines an American contingent hunting for its first victory on European soil in more than a decade. The 28-year-old’s Day 1 partner is No. 32 Allisen Corpuz, and the red, white, and blue–clad duo is a perfect 4-0 together.

• Their undefeated streak continued early this morning as Korda and Corpuz topped two of Europe’s best: Solheim debutant No. 7 Lottie Woad and No. 8 Charley Hull.
