🏈 The Weekly Blitz: Flip it and reverse it

Leveling The Playing Field
Hey, bestie!
As readers of last week’s Blitz already know, nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. That’s tricky for a scouting report, but excellent news for our free-to-play NFL Pick’ems Challenge. With this much parity, making your picks based on team colors just might be the best strategy.
Which NFL icon wore it best in Week 8?
Style is about more than personal expression — for Green Bay Packers safety Javon Bullard, it’s about opportunity. The fashionista’s motto? “You look good; you play good. When you play good, they pay good.” Getting that bag and carrying a chic one.
- Ahead of last week’s Thursday Night Football tilt, Bullard pulled up in a denim ensemble, mixing formal elements (like a tie and structured silhouette) with effortlessly cool streetwear. Taking notes.

🔄 Flip it and reverse it

The GIST: Eight weeks into the NFL season, and one major storyline stands out: Who the heck is good? The previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs have lost two straight, the preseason Super Bowl favorite LA Rams are a pedestrian 4-4, and the Cincinnati Bengals needed overtime to beat the one-win Tennessee Titans in Week 8. Talk about whiplash.
- Enter: The November 10th trade deadline, the final opportunity for contenders to improve ahead of their respective playoff pushes. Teams with Super Bowl aspirations typically swap draft picks in exchange for impact players from underperforming rosters.
After consulting our crystal ball, here are four players who could be on the move along with their potential landing spots:
💙 Indianapolis Colts running back (RB) Jonathan Taylor: The 2-6 Colts are entering their fire sale era, and all signs point to the All-Pro being dealt next. Taylor’s résumé includes four seasons of at least 1K yards rushing and a rushing title. The lone bright spot of Indy’s dismal offense, his eight rushing touchdowns (TDs) are second most in the NFL.
- 🔮 Who’s swiping right?: Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings
🐯 Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.: Hopes were high, but the 2024 first-round pick hasn’t met the moment in Jacksonville since his rookie-season Pro-Bowl nod — and his snap count has dwindled because of it. Thomas’ 33.3% drop rate is third-worst in the NFL, but his raw talent and potential warrant a second look.
- 🔮 Who’s swiping right?: San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs
❤️ Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker: Every Super Bowl–winning team needs a glue guy, and Baker is exactly that, boasting the physicality and ball-hawking prowess of an eight-time Pro Bowler. A veteran playmaker, Baker’s living in the present, but his versatility and leadership could be the missing piece on a championship-caliber roster.
- 🔮 Who’s swiping right?: Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars
⚡ LA Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack: No one expected the Chargers to be 0-7, but here they are — likely sellers at the deadline. The 35-year-old Mack isn’t as explosive as he once was, but the four-time All-Pro is an easy yes for many contenders: He can line up as both a linebacker and defensive end, with ferocious pass rushing being his biggest asset.
- 🔮 Who’s swiping right?: Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys

1. Buffalo Bills (6-1) 🦬
Quarterback (QB) Josh Allen scored a passing and rushing TD in the same game for the 54th time in his career in Week 8. In Allen, Bills Mafia trusts.
2. San Francisco 49ers (6-1) ❤️
Their Week 7 loss was objectively ugly, meaning last week’s bye couldn’t have come at a better time. Consider the Niners retooled.
3. Denver Broncos (6-2) 🧡
Believe it or not, no one is better than the Broncos in close games. Look no further than their 15th straight one-score win on Sunday. Equal parts impressive and stressful.
☀️ Expect a month full of bright, sunny skies in Jacksonville
Lather on some sunscreen because the 5-2 Jaguars are basking in this heat. The AFC South has never been the picture of success, but the surging Jags could wrap up the division before the end of the month with games against the Baltimore Ravens (notably without star QB Lamar Jackson), the lowly Titans (twice), and the NY Giants on deck.
- Under the tutelage of head coach Liam Coen, Jacksonville has blossomed over the last two seasons — but the emergence of RB Bhayshul Tuten has been the real treat.
Tuten stuffed the stat sheet in Week 8, rushing for a career-high 104 yards and adding 55 receiving yards and two total TDs. The offensive revelation has made life easier for QB Trevor Lawrence, who’s the first signal caller since 2015 to throw three TDs while attempting fewer than 15 passes. And that’s on efficiency.
Until next week — may your team’s offense always find the endzone,
