Tired just thinking about it
From The GIST (hi@thegistsports.com)

Welcome back!
Eyes on the prize because there’s a whole lot of postseason action to recap in today’s newsletter. Feeling extra shiny as we head into the week ahead.
- P.S. There’ll be no newsletter this Wednesday as our team gathers IRL for a company offsite. Follow along on social to see what we get up to and catch you back here on Friday.

PWHL playoffs
🏒 Ice and spice and everything nice

The GIST: No sophomore slump here. The second-ever PWHL postseason has been absolute fire. We’re smackdab in the middle of the best-of-five semifinals — and both series have been icy and spicy.
🥵 Montréal Victoire log first-ever playoff win in marathon Game 2: Four overtimes (OT) later, the longest game in PWHL history is in the books, featuring a barrage of scoring chances, mustard (no, really), and exceptional goaltending. Quebec product Catherine Dubois buried the game-winner for Montréal in the 3–2 dub, but the hero was undoubtedly Victoire goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens.
- “Desbiens” chants rightfully rained down as the tendy stopped a PWHL–record 63 shots, standing tall between the pipes and making all sorts of acrobatic saves. Très bien, indeed.
- With the series tied at one game apiece, there’s no rest for the weary. Instead, it’s off to Canada's capital as Ottawa plays host for tomorrow’s 7 p.m. ET Game 3.
❄️ Barn burner victory gives Minnesota Frost 2-1 series lead: So much lamplighting, so little time: The Frost and Toronto Sceptres combined for a mind-boggling 20 goals (!!!) in their last two games. But these high-scoring affairs haven’t favored the higher-seeded Sceptres, who lost 5–3 on Friday and 7–5 yesterday.
- Defending champ Minnesota can punch their second-straight Walter Cup Finals ticket when the series resumes on their home ice on Wednesday. The journey continues.
NBA Playoffs
🏀 A tale of two cities

The GIST: While the remaining NBA playoff teams are locked in second-round battles, the league’s worst squads are eyeing the ping pong balls that’ll decide their draft fate. That’s right, in addition to the high-stakes hoopla, tonight’s the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes NBA Draft Lottery at 7 p.m. ET.
- In the meantime, here’s the latest from a wild weekend on the hardwood.
🍀 Boston Celtics aren’t done yet: The reigning champs have Payton Pritchard to thank after the reigning Sixth Man of the Year did what he does best — ball out in big moments. Playoff P dropped a team-high 23 points in Boston’s 115–93 Saturday rout of the NY Knicks, bringing the Celtics back within one game of NY heading into tonight’s 7:30 p.m. ET Game 4.
🐺 Anthony Edwards leads Minnesota Timberwolves to Game 3 win: The “Wolverine” impersonator didn’t let an ankle injury in Game 2 slow him down, exploding for 36 points and silencing a raucous Golden State Warriors crowd with a 102–97 Saturday win. The down-to-the-wire dub gives the Wolves a 2-1 series lead ahead of tonight’s 10 p.m. ET Game 4.
- And while a win’s a win for Minnesota, the Warriors are still without superstar Steph Curry, who’s out until at least Game 5 with a pesky hamstring strain. Needless to say, the Wolves will be looking to wrap this one up ASAP.
😥 Top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers on brink of elimination after Game 4 loss: A bounceback performance in Friday’s Game 3 — a game that saw the return of all three injured Cavs — looked like the light at the end of the tunnel for Cleveland, but it was anything but after last night’s 129–109 thrashing by the Indiana Pacers.
- Adding insult to injury? Cavs superstar Donovan Mitchell left the game with an ankle injury. Pain, literally, especially considering the Pacers can close out the series when things shift back to Ohio tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET.
🔥 MVP candidates keep Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC) and Denver Nuggets neck-and-neck: The Nuggets’ 113–104 OT win on Friday was answered by yesterday’s 92–87 Thunder dub, evening the series at two. OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver’s Nikola Jokić have been trading (proverbial) punches all series, so expect more drama tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. ET back in Oklahoma.

Stanley Cup Playoffs
🏒 It ’s giving whiplash

The GIST: Last but not least, Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs rage on, bringing down-to-the-wire tilts everywhere you look. Postseason hockey is simply unmatched.
🌀 Carolina Hurricanes shut out Washington Capitals, take 2-1 series lead: Goaltender Frederik Andersen did his best Clark Kent impression on Saturday, stopping 21 Caps shots while four different Canes scored in the 4–0 Game 3 victory. See if Washington’s Alex Ovechkin can spark some life into this offense and avoid a 3-1 series hole tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
🔥 Vegas Golden Knights winger Reilly Smith wins Game 3 with 0.4 seconds to spare: Smith’s Saturday buzzer-beater not only brought Vegas (now down 1-2) back into this series, it also dropped Oilers backup tendy Stuart Skinner to 0-3 in the postseason. But can the Knights keep it up without captain Mark Stone? Find out tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET.
👀 Dallas Stars score three third-period goals, top Winnipeg Jets 5–2: How the tables turn: A mere 48 hours after his first postseason shutout since 2021, Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (widely considered the best in the league) was overpowered by the red-hot Stars offense yesterday. Now leading 2-1, Dallas can put up another big number in the Big D tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET.
👊 Florida Panthers win feisty Game 4 to even series: With fists flying and tempers flaring, the defending champion Panthers topped the Toronto Maple Leafs 2–0 last night behind a jaw-dropping goal from center Sam Bennett. Meanwhile, Leafs star Auston Matthews is still scoreless in the series, but has a chance to right the ship back at home Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Together With Intuit QuickBooks

1️⃣ The problem with being a “first?” The pressure to succeed. When Jenny Nguyen opened The Sports Bra, the first-ever women’s sports bar, she understood the challenges of blazing a trail — that’s why she made the easy decision to handle her finances with Intuit QuickBooks.
- QuickBooks has been there every step of the way, helping Nguyen draw insights from initial business reports, which laid the groundwork for turning The Sports Bra from a “first” to a franchise. No place to go but up.
